Tonbridge Lions are proud to announce that this year’s annual Christmas barrel organ appeal raised an impressive total of £3,616, a new record, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Tonbridge shoppers.
Since its inception in 1952, the Christmas barrel organ has been a cherished tradition, with the funds raised each year supporting deserving causes within the local community. Originally, the proceeds from the collection were used to distribute coal to families in need, ensuring they could heat their homes during the cold winter months.
This year, the funds will be used to provide nearly 200 food vouchers, which have already been distributed to individuals and families in need by local organisations that have direct contact with those facing hardship. Any surplus funds will be allocated to other worthy causes and local charities in the area.
Lion Mike Fenn, Chairman of the Barrel Organ Committee, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are very thankful to our local community for their continued support in generously donating to our Christmas Appeal this year. We are thrilled to have raised such a record amount. On behalf of the Tonbridge Lions, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year.”
Tonbridge Lions remain committed to supporting local communities and look forward to continuing the tradition of the Christmas barrel organ collection for many years to come.
