Tonbridge Lions Celebrate their 75th Birthday

Updated: Mar 19

This year the Tonbridge Lions Club is celebrating its 75th anniversary, marking more than seven decades of service to the local community and beyond. Since its founding in 1950, the club is proud of having played a pivotal role in supporting various charitable initiatives, promoting volunteerism, and making a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and families in the area. Tonbridge was the first club to be formed in the UK and remains one of the largest and most active Lions Clubs in the South East.

To commemorate the milestone anniversary of the club’s Charter, a celebratory lunch was had at the High Rocks Inn on Saturday, 15th March with “75” very much the theme. Hosted by Lion President Phil Jesson, honoured guests included representatives from the Rotary Club of Tonbridge, Tonbridge Round Table, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council and the Governor of the South East District of Lions Clubs International.

In his address, President Phil highlighted the many activities that Tonbridge Lions undertake and the positive impact the club has within our community. He also thanked the many supporters of the club. A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by the 90 attendees, with delicious food and good conversation whilst being gently serenaded by the trio “The Café Society”. A selection of photographs accompany this article.
