Writer's picture: Gordon HillGordon Hill

Our historic town of Tonbridge is set to host its annual Dragon Boat Race on

Sunday, 7th September 2025, against the magnificent backdrop of Tonbridge Castle. This thrilling community event, organised by the Tonbridge Lions, will see 30 local teams compete along a challenging 250-metre course on the River Medway.

The race, which has become a hallmark event in the town's calendar, will commence at 9am and coincides with the town's Food and Drink Festival weekend, taking place on its second day. Spectators can enjoy prime viewing positions along the river barriers and castle grounds, combining the excitement of the races with the festival's culinary delights.

Following the tremendous success of previous years, the 2025 event promises to bring the same vibrant atmosphere to the heart of Tonbridge. All proceeds from the event will be distributed through the Tonbridge Lions to support vital local causes, continuing the Lions longstanding tradition of community service.

Team registration will open in March 2025. Previous participating teams will automatically receive registration invitations via our existing mailing list. New teams interested in participating are encouraged to register their interest early by contacting the organisers through the official Tonbridge Lions Dragon Boat Race Facebook page www.facebook.com/TonbridgeDragonBoatRace  or via email at dragonboatrace@tonbridgelions.org.
